March 1, 2008: The Burmese military regime State Peace and Development Council on 26th February 2008 released its "The Referendum Law for the Approval of the Draft Constitution of the Republic of the Union of Myamar, 2008" slated for May 2008.

 

Excerpt: .......Every citizen, associate citizen, naturalized citizen, and temporary certificate holder who has completed the age of eighteen years on the day of referendum shall have the right to vote at the referendum. Every person who is so entitled to vote shall be mentioned in the voting roll.

The Associated Press - February 9, 2008

 

YANGON, Myanmar - Myanmar's military government, a target of sharp international criticism for failing to hand over power to a democratically elected government, announced Saturday that it will hold elections in 2010. The junta also said a national referendum to approve a new constitution will be held in May.
